Valerie Ashton (SID JAMES' WIFE)

Ashton is most famous for being the third wife of actor Sid James.
She married him in 1952 and in spite of all his infidelities was still his wife in 1976 when he died of a heart attack on the stage of the Sunderland Empire on 26th April.
Little career information exists on Valerie Ashton so it is possible she abandoned her show business ambitions when she married him at the age of 24.
During the later part of their marriage they lived in a house partly designed by James himself called Delaford Park situated in Iver, Buckinghamshire, a location close enough to Pinewood Studios to allow him to return home for lunch whilst filming. During his marriage to Valerie he had a well-publicised affair with his Carry On co-star, Barbara Windsor, beginning in 1973.
Sid and Valerie had two children.

This is an extraordinarily rare vintage postcard (5.25" x 3.25") of Valerie Ashton when she was just setting out on her showbusiness career, and before she met Sid James. A sensationally pretty image (you can see why Sid fell for her), there's a fine signature and inscription ("For Mary, Best wishes, Valerie Ashton") in blue ink across it. Most of the inscription and her surname are in a darker area of the image, but readability remains acceptable. Slight silvering to the left and right edges but overall condition is very good.
