A very
early sepia photograph (approximately 8" x 6") of the young Stanley
Holloway, laid to a deckled edge mount by the photographer, Navana Ltd
of Oxford Street in London (overall dimensions, 9" x 6.25"). Holloway
has added a signature and inscription ("To Betty, with love, Stanley, Palace Theatre, 1921") in dark blue fountain pen ink across the image. Holloway was then appearing in the hit stage variety revue, The Co-Optimists, which gave him his breakthrough, and "Betty" in the inscription is Betty Chester, one of his co-stars in that show. Austrian-born character actor. On January 17th 1960 Oscar Homolka appeared on US television in a version of Sinclair Lewis' best-selling novel, Arrowsmith. Arrowsmith was about a young doctor dedicated to medical research, sent to a plague-infested West Indies island. Homolka played the part of Dr Max Gottlieb, and the title role of Dr Martin Arrowsmith was played by Farley Granger. This is rarity - a 1952 hardback copy of Sinclair Lewis's book, signed in ink on the half-title page not only by Oscar Homolka and Farley Granger but by the writer of the play, Philip Reisman Jr, and five other members of the cast - Francis Lederer, Diane Baker, Alexander Scourby, Robert Emhardt and Bernie West..
