Roy Castle

Great British entertainer, a talented trumpeter, comedian, dancer and singer.

In the mid-1960s Castle starred in BBC television’s The Roy Castle Show.

He also appeared in a number of films, notably Dr. Who and the Daleks (1965), playing the role of Dr. Who's first male assistant, Ian Chesterton, Dr. Terror's House of Horrors (1965), as a jazz musician suffering a curse after copying voodoo tunes and Carry On up the Khyber (1968).

Castle, who never smoked, died of lung cancer, which he blamed on years of playing his trumpet in smoky jazz clubs early in his career. He raised millions in his last two years of life to fund an international cancer centre in Liverpool.

This is a very cheery candid black and white photograph (8" x 10") of Roy, strolling with this wife Fiona at the seaside. There's a fine signature and inscription from Roy ("To Peter, Best wishes, Roy & Fiona Castle") in blue ink across the image.  In very good condition. (It's believed that  "Peter" was the Reuter's photographer who took the picture. ) RARE.
