Katherine Hepburn

Iconic American actress.
Hepburn won her first Oscar for best actress with only her third film, Morning Glory in 1933. After a lean period in which she had been given the label "box office poison" by exhibitors, she stormed back in 1939 with The Philadelphia Story, first of Broadway, then on film in 1940 (James Stewart beat co-star Cary Grant to the Oscar for Best Actor).
Hepburn's next film was Woman of the Year (1942), her first pairing with Spencer Tracy. Hepburn and Tracy would go on to star together in nine films, and would carry on a love affair for 27 years.
In the 1940s and 50s, Hepburn continued to appear in films and on stage. In these two decades, she received seven Academy Award nominations, and won two Oscars for Best Actress, for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) and The Lion in Winter (1968). Hepburn's record fourth Academy Award for Best Actress was achieved for her work in the 1981 film On Golden Pond, co-starring Henry Fonda.
Her last film work was a brief appearance in the 1994 film Love Affair.
Hepburn was romantically linked to several men throughout her life. In addition to her long romance with Spencer Tracy she had relationships with Hollywood agent Leland Hayward and multimillionaire Howard Hughes in the 1930s (Hughes gave her the film rights to The Philadelphia Story).
